Carbon Accounting for Enhanced Weathering

چکیده
The inevitable deployment of negative emission technologies requires carbon accounting to incentivise the investment and foster an active CO 2 certificate trading schema. Enhanced Weathering as one is being tested in field now, but lacks a verifiable cost-effective approach. Based on results from lab scale column experiment observations, it hypothesized that observed stable positive correlation between total alkalinity electrical conductivity may present way easily predict initial sequestration at application site by chemical mineral weathering low costs. Alkalinity measure track products. It not difficult measure, yet continuous mid- high-frequency sampling analyses are expensive time consuming. strong with could be harnessed enable uptake monitoring simple measurements soils or any point discharge system. For successful implementation calibration, data needed, covering most likely employment scenarios soil, climate, hydrology, rock product, scenario plant abundance. Incorporated growing public database, this used assessment benchmark system for future EW deployment.

Accounting for Carbon Dioxide Emissions
It is an adage of accounting to monitor what you can measure but there is concern that some elements can potentially be very important yet very difficult to evaluate. There are now many who care about accounting for CO2 emissions: from scientists interested in the global carbon cycle to environmentalists concerned about global climate change, regulators overseeing international or subnational a...
متن کاملAnthropogenically enhanced chemical weathering and carbon evasion in the Yangtze Basin
Chemical weathering is a fundamental geochemical process regulating the atmosphere-land-ocean fluxes and earth's climate. It is under natural conditions driven primarily by weak carbonic acid that originates from atmosphere CO2 or soil respiration. Chemical weathering is therefore assumed as positively coupled with its CO2 consumption in contemporary geochemistry. Strong acids (i.e. sulfuric- a...
متن کاملThe significance of carbon-enriched dust for global carbon accounting
Soil carbon stores amount to 54% of the terrestrial carbon pool and twice the atmospheric carbon pool, but soil organic carbon (SOC) can be transient. There is an ongoing debate about whether soils are a net source or sink of carbon, and understanding the role of aeolian processes in SOC erosion, transport and deposition is rudimentary. The impacts of SOC erosion by wind on the global carbon bu...
متن کاملAccounting Treatment for Carbon Emission Rights
In light of the growing demand for sustainable behavior and the special interest that has emerged regarding the social and environmental impact of firms, the purpose of this research is to analyze the determinants of the accounting treatment of emission rights. To achieve that purpose, we use a sample composed of 119 firms worldwide from different countries and activity sectors for the period 2...
